One of the most picturesque places in Italy, amazing Amalfi coast! With its unique views and warm Mediterranean waters – is the perfect holiday destinations for those who loves good food, beach and beautiful landscapes.
How to get to Amalfi
The easiest way to get there is through Naples airport. It´s only about 50 km distance to Amalfi coast and it´s easy reachable by car or public transport from Naples (although by public transport will take longer to get there).
There are many flight connections to Naples from any city in Europe.
The best way to experience the beauty of this coast is driving and stop wherever you can. The views is simply amazing and you want to stop and take photos everywhere! But, be aware on driving along the coast, because the roads are very curvy and inclined.
Where to stay in Amalfi
We´ve stayed in Sorrento, which is about 15 km away from Positano – the epic city of region and the most popular place in Amalfi coast.
We opted to stay in Sorrento town because it´s more affordable and more quite place than Positano or Amalfi. This small town lies on Sorrento coast, which is unique and equally beautiful!
But if you´re looking for unique experience of waking up with the view of coloured houses and deep blue ocean, I suggest to stay in Positano.
Sorrento sights
Visit the town of Sorrento on the northern arm of the Amalfi. The cathedral of Sorrento is a beautiful structure that was first built in the 11th century – this is definitely worth a visit.
Driving through Amalfi Coast
Positano
Admire the pastel coloured houses of Positano. Often considered to be one of the most picturesque towns on the Amalfi coast. This town is best viewed from the sea – if you can, take a boat tour.
Once you arrive to Positano, be prepared for a crowd and traffic. There is problematic to find a place to park your car, so it´s better to opt by Private Parking (which we did). 1 h costs aprox 6 to 10 eur.
I recommend to spend at least 3-5 hours in this little town. There are plenty of cozy restaurants, beautiful narrow streets, boutiques with local traditional products and of course, the world famous beach with unique and views!
Amalfi
Take in the gorgeous views from Praiano. Located inbetween Amalfi and Positano and is a less visited town that allows you to escape from the crowds of the other well-known coastal spots.
Visit the town of Amalfi, which is actually larger than most settlements here and due to this fact it has its own cathedral. This cathedral is a major attraction and the Piazza del Duomo is one of the main places to visit in Amalfi.
Ravello
Head up to the heights of Ravello. If you want the best views of the Amalfi Coast then you must head to Ravello. This town can be found on the top of the mountains in-between Amalfi and Maiori.
Minori
Enjoy the beaches of Maiori and Minori. If you want to relax on a beautiful beach and rejuvenate your mind and soul.
Salerno
After discovering the amazing Amalfi coast, another ,,must do´´ in this region is Pompeii & Vesuvius day tour.
Wherever you stay (Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi) you´ll find many offers of day tours. But if you have a car I would recommend to head to Pompeii town, which is 30 km away and purchase the tour to Vesuvius in the city.
To experience the Ancient Roman town Pompeii, you should reserve at least 1 day, as the complex is huge!
Due to lack of available time, we went to Vesuvius tour only. Be prepared to climb for aprox. 1 hour, but it totally worth the effort. The views from the top of Vulcano is breathtaking!
Hope my suggestions will be useful on planning your trip to Amalfi coast!
Have a nice trips!
