There is no doubt, Hong Kong will surprise you! Once home to fishermen and farmers, modern Hong Kong is a teeming, commercially-vibrant metropolis where Chinese and Western influences fuse.

The city is famous for its rustic charm, sophisticated metropolitan lifestyle, shopping, and extremely delicious food. But there’s one other thing Hong Kong is notorious for: being extremely costly. But despite its reputation, Hong Kong has plenty of free yet enjoyable experiences to offer avid travellers!

How to get there

The best and cheapest way to get to Hong Kong from Europe is departing from London (direct flight time aprox 12 hours) or from Paris, with stopover in Istanbul or Beijing.
There are 3 modes of transportation available from Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) to the city centre of Hong Kong: Taxi, Train and Bus.

The most convenient method to get to the city centre is by hiring an airport taxi. The taxi ride will cost 40€ (370 HK$) and it will take approx. 30 minutes to reach your destination.

The quickest method of public transportation is the train. Train tickets cost 12.50€ (115 HK$) and the journey lasts only 24 minutes.

An alternative cheap option is the bus. Tickets for the bus cost 4.40€ (40 HK$). However, the bus trip to the city centre of Hong Kong takes over 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Where to stay

We´ve stayed on Hong Kong Island, Ramada Hong Kong Harbour View. The location is great, near metro, the views from the hotel is amazing, although the rooms is quite small. I recommend to stay on island insted of mainland.

What to do & see

• On the edge of the Kowloon Peninsula’s popular Tsim Sha Tsui neighborhood, the promenade is the Hong Kong locale for many visitors. Stretching from Hong Kong’s colonial-era Clock Tower to Hung Hom, the Tsim Sha Tsui promenade gives you unobstructed views of Hong Kong Island’s majestic skyline. Don´t miss the Symphony of Lights at 8 p.m. each
night.

• Head to Victoria Peak. “The Peak” is a must-visit attraction simply for its incredible views. Situated atop the highest point on Hong Kong Island, The Peak is as scenic as lookouts come.

• Walk among Hong Kong´s most decorated celebrities avenue – Avenue of Stars.

• Take a ride on Star Ferry. Transporting guests between the Kowloon Peninsula and Hong Kong Island, this vessel provides the most scenic route through the city.

• Visit Lantau Island. The Big Buddha in Lantau Island is one of the largest seated Buddha statues in the world. Tian Tan, as it is also known, is made of bronze and sits atop the Ngong Ping Plateau, the 260 step staircase will bring you to the three tier podium where it rests. The views from the podium are magnificent and you can go around in a 360 circle to enjoy
Lantau Island’s beauty.

Don´t miss to check out the Street Markets. Hong Kong’s street markets are diverse, catering to various clienteles with different merchandise.

Walk around and enjoy the hustle & bustle of this great city!
