Our 4-day itinerary
Day 1 – Merzouga Desert tour from Marrakech to Dades Gorges
Best Morocco Travel will pick you up early in your Marrakech accommodation. You will take a journey towards the Dades Valley, passing through the Tizi-N-Tichka pass in the High Atlas mountains, which stands at an impressive 2260 meters above sea level.
The route will take you through authentic Berber villages, allowing you to immerse yourself in the local culture. Stop at the local argan oil shop, where you can watch how it’s made by local women. Here you can buy high-quality argan oil as well.
The next stop is one of the most famous and beautiful places to visit in Morocco – Ait Ben Hadou. The magnificent Kasbah has been honored as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986. It served as the backdrop for numerous iconic films, including Gladiator, Obelix, The Mummy, The Jewel of the Nile, and Sahara.
Our next stop was the Ouarzazate. Here we visited the Taourirt Kasbah, a stunning example of a ksar, and the renowned Oscar film studios.
The journey continued to the Dades Valley, where we spent the night in a very picturesque riad overlooking the mountains.
With mountain views from the room, this riad is an absolutely good choice for your accommodation in Dades Valley.
Day 2 – Merzouga Desert tour from Dades Valley to Merzouga Desert
After early breakfast, at Riad Dades Paradise you will be taken to the Tesdrine panoramic viewpoint, with an elevation of 1,039 meters, that provides amazing views of the serpentine road in the valley.
We passed through Tinghir and paused to appreciate the beauty of the Todra Valley, abundant with palm trees. Really beautiful place to take some nice photos!
Our next stop was the Todra Gorges. These gorges are a rock climbing enthusiast’s dream and are among the most popular rock climbing destinations in Morocco. It looks almost prehistoric with canyon walls that reach over 400 meters in height (higher than the Empire State Building in New York).
On the way to Merzouga desert, we stopped at a very beautiful souvenir shop near Tamellalt town, where you can try and buy some traditional Berber and Moroccan clothes and make hena tattoo for free.
We arrived at the Merzouga desert just in time for a camel ride through the majestic Erg Chebbi dunes. Admiring the most beautiful sunset in the desert was the highlight of the trip.
Here we spent our 1st night in Merzouga desert, at a very beautiful and very well-located desert camp:
Nestled amidst the breathtaking dunes, this oasis of luxury will transport you to a world where time stands still and awe-inspiring beauty surrounds you. Greeted by a warm and hospitable staff, you’ll feel at home. Elegantly designed tents, meticulously crafted to blend traditional charm with modern comforts.
After a delicious dinner, we gathered around the campfire with the traditional music. Once in a lifetime experience that you should have in Morocco.
Day 3 – Merzouga Desert tour – Merzouga Sighseeing
This day of our Merzouga Desert tour was dedicated entirely to the desert and getting to know more about life in the desert.
After our amazing breakfast in the camp, the first place we visited was the Bedouin Berber family. The Bedouins still adopt a traditional way of life in the heart of the desert. We enjoyed a cup of refreshing mint tea as we interacted with them and learned about their desert life and traditions.
The next stop was the village of Khamlia, where you can immerse yourself in the enchanting sounds of Gnawa music. The village is home to descendants of dark-skinned immigrants who arrived in Morocco more than a century ago. Their history as former slaves adds depth to their music.
Later we passed through the Hassi Labid Oasis, where we found an irrigation canal and witnessed traditional land cultivation practices.
Before going to our riad for another overnight stay in the desert, we stopped to witness another amazing sunset in the desert. The 2nd night was spent in another accommodation in Merzouga:
Imagine yourself lounging by the crystal-clear waters, surrounded by endless golden sand dunes and majestic palm trees. This oasis in the desert promises both relaxation and adventure, offering the perfect escape from the Moroccan heat.
Day 4 – Merzouga Desert tour – Merzouga to Marrakech
On the last day of our Merzouga Desert tour we started our journey early, to reach Marrakech in the afternoon. Right after leaving the Merzouga desert, we passed through Rissani Town, which is just 30 km away.
Here you will have the chance to explore Rissani town’s traditional weekly market. If your visit coincides with market days (Sunday, Tuesday, or Thursday), you will get a great glimpse into the local trade and culture.
We had an amazing lunch at a local family house. The couscous was delicious!
After lunch, we started our journey back to Marrakech, with quick stops at panoramic viewpoints. We arrived in Marrakech just in time to watch the sunset at our riad´s rooftop terrace.
