How to get there
United Airlines is the leading carrier into SFO, with the most domestic and international flights serving the airport annually. Once in airport, take a Bay Area Rapid Transit’s, or BART’s, all-electric trains are a fast, inexpensive, and dependable way to get from SFO to San Francisco easily and avoiding traffic. BART fares are based on distance traveled; the greater the distance, the higher the fare. A round-trip fare from SFO to downtown San Francisco is $19.30 ($9.65 oneway).
Where to stay in San Francisco
There are a ton of different neighborhoods, each with a completely distinct vibe, history, scenery. And despite San Francisco’s relatively tiny size, it can take hours to get from one side of the city to another on public transportation thanks to the hills and traffic.
Basing yourself in the right spot can mean the difference. Suggested areas in San Francisco: Union Square, South of Market, aka SoMa, Haight-Ashbury, Hayes Valley, The Castro, North Beach (& Chinatown).
What to do & see
• Between San Francisco Bay and Marin County is the world famous Golden Gate Bridge. The bridge has been declared one of the modern wonders of the world. It was opened in 1937 and at that time it was the longest Suspension bridge ever created.
• Head Down To The Waterfront At Fisherman’s Wharf, San Francisco’s most famous waterfront community. Here you can experience some fantastic food and enjoy some of the best dining the world has to offer.
• Relax At Golden Gate Park. Each year 13 million visitors visit this park and explore one of San Francisco’s most amazing places. This picturesque space spans 1,017 acres and has many places to explore and relax.
• Ride The San Francisco Cable Car System, the last manually operated system in the world today.
• Take a boat tour through San Francisco Bay, which includes the San Francisco waterfront, a ride under the Golden Gate Bridge, and around Alcatraz Island. Alcatraz is a tiny island and was developed as a military fortification, a military prison as well as a federal prison. The prisoners who caused continual trouble at other prisons was locked up here. Many infamous prisoners have stayed here including Al Capone and Robert Franklin Stroud.
