Vietnam is one of Southeast Asia´s most beautiful countries, attracting travellers to its lush mountains, bustling cities and golden sand beaches.
This country is famous not only because of beautiful nature and interesting history, but also known as the place that offers flavorful, colorful and extremely healthy cuisine.
How to get to Vietnam
Hanoi is one of the major entry points into Vietnam with plenty of direct international flights. This city has fewer direct international flights than Ho Chi Minh, but with excellent connections through Singapore, Hong Kong or Bangkok you can get almost anywhere easily.
Hanoi Noi Bai International Airport is about 35km north of the city, taking around 45 minutes along a modern highway. Public bus Nr 17 and Nr 86 runs to/from Long Bien Bus Station on the northern edge of the Old Quarter. Allow around 90 minutes’ travelling time. Taxi charges US$20 for a doorto-door taxi ride to or from Noi Bai International Airport.
Where to stay in Vietnam
I would suggest to stay in capital city Hanoi. Located on the banks of the Red River, is one of the most ancient capitals in the world, where travellers can find well-preserved colonial buildings, ancient pagodas and unique museums.
A great place to explore on foot, this city is also known for its vibrant nightlife, silks and handicrafts, night markets and great restaurants.
What to do & see
• Halong Bay. is one of the world’s most spellbinding sea views and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Thousands of limestone islands sit within this bay in the Gulf of Tonkin, eroded into jagged pinnacles by wind and water action over millennia.
• Tam Coc. Located in Ninh Binh province 100 km southeast of Hanoi, Hoa Lu and Tam Coc are two of the most picturesque spots in all of the north. The entire area in Tam Coc offers beautiful sceneries, including rice fields and rivers. The best and easiest way to explore this countryside is to rent a bicycle and take a boat trip on the river.
• Sapa Region. The verdant rice field countryside surrounding Sapa, bordered by the jagged peaks of the Hoang Lien Mountains are home to Vietnam’s most beautiful rural vistas.
• Hanoi. Vietnam’s capital is the frenetic heartbeat of the nation. The motorbike frenzy, pollution, and constant clamor of street vendors can get too much for some travelers, but if you want to dive into Vietnamese city life, Hanoi is the place to do it.
• Ba Be National Park. This is one of the most peaceful spots in Vietnam, and travelers who spend the night here sleep in traditional stilt-house homestay accommodation along the lakeshore, allowing an experience of simple rural life.
We went to Hanoi only for 3 days and it´s obvious if we had stayed for more, we could have travelled more in Vietnam. This country should be definitely on your travel list. Hope to be back there to visit Sapa region, Ho Chi Minh city and the beaches in the South of Vietnam..
